An original hand colored print titled: Preussen. Infanterist, Husar, Husarenoffizier, von Hellwigsches Streifcorps. 1813. It is Band I, Plate 28, Uniformenkunde Gesamtverzeichnis no. 777, from the Uniformenkunde series of 1060 plates created by Richard Knotel to illustrate world uniforms from the 17th century to just prior to WWI.
The Streifkorps were recruited from volunteer companies, attached to infantry and cavalry regiments; they comprised cavalry, infantry and sometimes artillery units, ranging in size from 100-150 men to several thousand. They operated as part of a Division or Corps, scouting the area and fighting behind enemy lines to disrupt lines of communication and reinforcement through guerilla tactics.
The plate is from the original 1890 printing by Max Babenzien in Rathenow.
The condition is as shown in the product images which are photographs of the actual plate. The plate is in fair condition with some yellowing and wear, particularly around the edges. Some of the paper has flaked off around the edges and there is a tear on the top edge and another on the bottom right corner.
